RecycleMania
Turns Recycling into a Competitive Sport
on Campuses Nationwide!
 |
After four weeks of RecycleMania,
the competition is growing strong!
Colleges and universities nationwide
are vying to become #1 in a 10-week
competitive campus-recycling program.
From its start in 2001, when Ed
Newman of Ohio University and Stacy
Edmonds Wheeler of Miami University
set out to increase recycling in
residence and dinning halls on their
campuses, RecycleMania has grown
to almost 50 schools! And, in 2004,
RecycleMania collaborated with the
WasteWise program to enhance the
competition and provide technical
assistance, a Web site, and an electronic
reporting system.
Not only have campuses been increasing
their recycling rates, but many
have received a fair amount of press
coverage since the competition started
on January 30. Publications like
campus newspapers, local newspapers,
and even the New York Times have
picked up on the excitement and
significance of this event.
