smokestack"The format of the Climate Profile allows us to directly communicate GHG emission reduction data back to management, shareholders, Cast Members, and employees and shows our stakeholders that waste minimization efforts are paying off in ways beyond pure financials."
--Brett Rohring, The Walt Disney Company

iceburg"The Climate Profile provides WasteWise partners with an invaluable tool. In order to produce something similar, we would have to hire an outside consultant to crunch the numbers and produce the document. Smaller organizations and companies do not have the resources to put together a very nice, slick, one-page, color copy of what they are doing."
--Chris Bussen, Jackson County, Missouri

How Do I Get a Climate Profile?
If you would like to receive a Climate Profile, all you need to do is submit annual data to EPA. Please see the Reporting (username: partner, password: iamwise) page for more information about the WasteWise Assessment Form or contact the WasteWise Helpline at (800) EPA-WISE (372-9473) or e-mail <WasteWise@icfi.com> for further assistance.

When filling out your WasteWise Assessment Form and your Awards Application, remember to include information about your climate-related WasteWise activities so we can know what you've been doing. This is especially important if you are applying for the Gold Achievement Climate Award.

What is the Climate Profile?
This WasteWise tool describes GHG emission reductions resulting from individual waste prevention and recycling activities.

The Climate Profile consists of a summary of GHG emissions reductions, a multi-year trend for waste prevention and recycling activities, a breakdown of GHG emissions reductions by major commodities, and GHG equivalent factors (i.e., the number of cars removed from the road for one year, the number of acres of trees storing an equal amount of carbon, and the number of households emitting an equal amount of GHGs through power consumption).

Benefits of the Climate Profile
Receiving a Climate Profile requires no additional effort, and you receive a valuable tool to present to management showing your waste reduction efforts in real-life GHG equivalencies. Data in the Climate Profile can be used to enhance various forms of communication, including:

  • Presentations
  • Project status reports
  • Annual reports
  • Stakeholder/stockholder reports
  • Educating the general public
  • Educational posters
  • Paycheck inserts
  • Community event displays
  • Web site announcements
  • Press releases
  • Newspaper/journal articles
  • Employee newsletters

Deadline Reminders

  • March 31, 2006—WasteWise Assessment Forms due. There will be no extensions if you plan on applying for an award.
  • April 21, 2006—Awards Applications, written statements, and supplemental materials due.
